Steinkraus Plumbing Inc Introduce
As a homeowner or business operator in Minnesota's dynamic Twin Cities Metropolitan Area, you understand that reliable plumbing is non-negotiable. From the harsh winters that challenge our water lines to the daily wear and tear on fixtures and water heaters, having a trusted, local expert on call is essential. Steinkraus Plumbing Inc is a locally owned, family-run business that has been serving the greater Twin Cities area for over 30 years, building a foundation of experience across residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
Founded by Merle Steinkraus, the company positions itself as a comprehensive plumbing service provider, capable of handling everything from simple household repairs and leaks to complex industrial plumbing systems. Their decades of service in the Minnesota market mean they are intimately familiar with the unique plumbing challenges faced by properties across the Twin Cities region, including issues related to older home infrastructure and weather-related emergencies. When you need a professional, experienced plumber for a renovation, new installation, or an urgent repair, Steinkraus Plumbing aims to be the first call for Minneapolis residents.
A crucial part of any significant plumbing work in the Minneapolis area involves navigating local regulations and permit requirements. In Minneapolis, a plumbing permit is required for many changes to a plumbing system, ensuring the work meets safety and code compliance standards. Residents should note that permits are generally required for: replacing or installing new fixtures like sinks, showers, and tubs; replacing or installing water piping; installing or replacing a water heater; and connecting gas appliances. Homeowners who reside in and own their home may be able to apply for their own permit, but professional contractors like Steinkraus Plumbing are typically licensed and equipped to handle the necessary documentation and inspections, a key factor in ensuring a project is completed correctly and legally.
The cost of plumbing services in the Minneapolis area can vary based on complexity, and Minnesota residents should be aware of the general market rates. For quality work, Minneapolis plumbers may charge hourly rates that range from approximately $45 to $200, though many professionals lean toward the higher end of that range for skilled work. Emergency fees and service call fees are also common. While the average cost for a typical plumbing job in Minneapolis falls between $174 and $499, this can increase significantly for major projects like whole-home repiping or sewer line work, especially in older homes common across the region's historic neighborhoods. Customers engaging a plumber should always seek clarity on whether they charge a flat rate per job or an hourly rate for time and materials, and should request detailed, itemized documentation of all labor and material costs.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 12017 I did Phase I of a big renovation and spent 19K with Steinkraus and when I got the bill I asked for back up documentation to support the invoice and was given the run around and an answer well we aren't the cheapest plumbers and we need to cover overhead. When we started Phase II we really like the plumber and thought let's give them a second try and asked for another person to be our contact. They sent the owner Merle and he did a bid which we signed but stated we were concerned that some of Phase III might be included but were told don't worry we will be fair and take care of you. When I got the 17K bill I had kept track of all the hours. I am about 5K in the dark how they came up with the total and they refuse to itemize the invoice. My advise is if you work with them it is time and materials and you ask for documentation. The time spent on site for Ryan was a total of 67 x $135.00 = $9045.00 plus $1000.00 Material plus fixtures $2440.00 =$12, 485.00. Even if you added on a 20% management fee it still would be below the $17,210.00 invoice I received. So basically they charged me $205.00 an hour? I just wish they felt the need to walk me through all the charges but they have no interest. The good news we think our plumber was great just not the front office. The bad news is we have Phase III and can't use them. 5 Stars for plumbing!
September 17 · Kim CameronSteinkraus Plumbing - specifically the owner, Jason, is extremely unprofessional. He has repeatedly ignored my calls when calling to collect payment for materials we supplied his company for a project they were working on. I left well over 10 messages for him with the staff that answers the phone and they assured me they were passing along the messages and they weren’t sure why he wasn’t returning my calls. He finally returned my call months later and said he would pay. Months go by and still no payment. Eventually I got ahold of Jason directly again and he said since he “closed out that project on his end, he cannot pay us...” - in what world does that excuse a business from paying another business for their product that they received? You would think as an owner of a small business himself he would understand the importance of every sale/purchase and understand that if you order and receive product, you are responsible to pay for it. I would not do business with this company as they have proven (read other reviews) that they are not a trustworthy company. Very sad that he puts his employees in the position of taking the heat for his poor business practices.
October 21 · Lori LobdellI own a small business. We provided Steinkraus with a water meter for a job they were working on. They never paid us for it. We called repeatedly and they said they would pay. Then they said they were done with the job and it was too late for them to pay us. Then, after 2 years they said the meter was too expensive. Very disappointing and unprofessional. Been in business for 8 years and this is the only time a customer hasn't paid. I wouldn't do business with them if I were you. Lots of other plumbers around.
October 21 · Steve MerenessMy plumber was awesome! He was on time to replace my bathroom fixtures. He had the items shipped from Pipeline Supply directly to the house the prior day so he started work and was done in no time flat. They have been in the business for years with a solid customer satisfaction rating outside of this Google rating service. They were recommended to me by another happy customer.
March 01 · Michael SmithI had an appointment with Steinkraus for them to install a gas line in the morning. The plumber never called nor showed up. I called early afternoon and was told I would be called back once they find out what's going on. Never recieved a return call. Was told when I called them back again that evening that they might be able to do the job in a week. I took an entire day off of work to get the work done which was scheduled well before hand.
