Capra's Utilities Inc Introduce
For homeowners and businesses throughout the greater St. Paul, Minnesota area, maintaining essential utility infrastructure is critical for the health and functionality of any property. When issues arise deep underground—involving your sewer, water, or septic systems—you need a contractor with specialized equipment, proven experience, and a commitment to meticulous work. Capra's Utilities Inc. is a name that has become synonymous with reliable, high-quality underground utility and plumbing services in the Twin Cities metro area for decades.
Established by Mike Capra’s father in 1989 with humble beginnings, Capra’s Utilities Inc. has grown into a well-respected, third-generation family-owned business. Mike Capra purchased the company in 2002 and, together with his wife, Kris, has significantly expanded the fleet and shop space, ensuring they always have the right heavy equipment—from semi-trucks and dump trucks to various excavators and skid steers—to handle any scale of underground project without unnecessary delays. They understand that for Minnesotans, especially with our unique topography and challenging seasonal conditions, addressing these issues promptly and permanently is paramount. Their longstanding presence and continual growth reflect a deep-seated dedication to serving the local community with honesty and technical expertise.
Unlike a standard interior-only plumber, Capra’s Utilities Inc. specializes in the complex world of exterior and underground utility systems. Their expertise lies in all phases of sewer, water, and septic services for both residential and commercial clients, offering solutions that range from traditional excavation to modern, trenchless technology. This specialization means they are uniquely equipped to handle the most daunting and technical projects, such as a full septic system replacement on a challenging, hilly lot with mature trees, as evidenced by positive customer feedback regarding their project coordination and attention to detail.
Capra's Utilities Inc. serves the wider Minneapolis/St. Paul metro region, making their specialized services accessible to a large part of Central Minnesota. While the business is family-owned and often associated with White Bear Lake, their St. Paul service address provides a central base for operations throughout the East Metro area and beyond.

- Generational Family Ownership: The business is a third-generation, family-owned and operated company, ensuring a personal investment in quality and accountability for every job since 1989.
- Underground Utility Specialization: They are not generalists; they are specialists in sewer, water, and septic systems, which often require heavy machinery and advanced trenchless techniques like CIPP (Cure-In-Place Pipelining).
- Advanced Trenchless Technology: They are noted for utilizing sewer lining and UV Curing, which allows for pipe rehabilitation with minimal digging, preserving landscaping and driveways for homeowners.
- Exceptional Customer Communication: Customers consistently report excellent communication, with the team explaining the process clearly, providing prompt estimates, and keeping homeowners informed throughout the duration of the project, which is crucial for large-scale utility work.
- Commitment to Original Estimates: In one notable instance of complex repair where a second pipe unexpectedly broke, the company honored the original estimate despite the work essentially doubling, showing a strong commitment to transparent and fair pricing.
- Respect for Property: Reviews frequently praise the crews for their careful handling of property, including successfully navigating difficult terrain like steep hills and around trees, and minimizing damage to lawns and hard surfaces during excavation.
- Extensive Licensing and Experience: Their team collectively possesses decades of experience in the industry, including Mike Capra receiving his Septic (SSTS) license shortly after high school, providing assurance of technical competence and compliance with local regulations.
Choosing the right contractor for underground utility work in St. Paul or the surrounding Minnesota suburbs is a major decision. These are projects that involve significant effort, specialized machinery, and a direct impact on the core functionality of your property. For Minnesotans, especially those in areas with aging infrastructure or rural properties relying on septic systems, Capra’s Utilities Inc. offers several compelling advantages.
The primary reason to choose this company lies in their profound specialization in underground services. They are not simply a plumbing company that happens to own a backhoe; they are an underground utility contractor whose entire business model is built around excavating, replacing, and rehabilitating the main lines that connect your property to municipal services or a private septic system. This focus means their crews, their equipment, and their project management are all optimized for this specific, complex type of work.
The customer testimonials strongly reinforce the company’s ability to manage complex logistics, such as coordinating with city inspectors and subcontractors for road and lawn repair, all while maintaining great communication with the homeowner. For major repairs like sewer line replacement to the street, or installing a new mound septic system on difficult terrain, this level of coordination and expertise is priceless. They are known for getting the job done quickly and efficiently, often completing major projects within a few days and minimizing disruption, such as only being without water for a few hours during a full pipe replacement.
Furthermore, their dedication to customer service—evidenced by maintaining original estimates even when unforeseen complications arise—builds a level of trust that is invaluable in the contracting industry. When you are facing an urgent sewer or water line issue, knowing you have a professional, family-owned company with decades of deep-rooted local experience and a commitment to quality work at an affordable price, like Capra’s Utilities Inc., provides essential peace of mind. For any residential or commercial sewer, water, or septic project in the Twin Cities area, their specialized focus and trusted local reputation make them a leading choice.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We had our old septic system replaced with a new mound system by Capra's this week and the process went flawlessly and the job done by Mike Capra and his crew was done quickly with all phases of the install well coordinated. The hilly terrain of our lot, numerous oak trees and large pond required a very technical installation. Throughout the process, Mike was on top of everything, was available to provide answers to questions and would keep us informed of anything he needed us to do. We highly recommend Capra's Utilities!
September 30 · Greg EastlundCapra's replaced our pipe from the house to the street per West St Paul ownership transfer INI rules.Communication was great, they provided an estimate and kept to it even though they did the work in the Spring. They walked through the whole process with us. The team that did the work was efficient and friendly and we were only without water for a few hours vs most of the day. They did great work and I would work with them again!
May 08 · Mary FreyMike Capra and Company is the place to go. I would trust any recommendation he would give. His crew know what they're doing and work hard. Their communications are clear and prompt. They have the equipment to get the job done. I doubt if anyone could've done the work for less cost with less disruption. If I could give him 10 stars out of five I would.

Mike, Nick and the whole team were hustlers! Nice to see a group of young pros do such a fantastic job.I highly recommend this company.Thank you, Mike and to your team for going the extra mile!
