American Backflow Inspectors Introduce
Maintaining a safe and potable water supply is a critical priority for all Tennessee residents and businesses, especially in a growing metropolitan area like Nashville. American Backflow Inspectors (ABI) serves a highly specialized and essential function within the local plumbing industry. Unlike general plumbers who handle a variety of repair work, ABI focuses exclusively on the highly technical, regulation-driven field of cross-connection control and backflow prevention.
The primary mission of ABI is to ensure that non-potable (unsafe) water is never allowed to flow backward into the clean, drinking water supply. This reverse flow, known as backflow, can occur due to changes in water pressure and poses a serious health risk. As a specialized Plumber based in Nashville, American Backflow Inspectors provides mandatory inspection, testing, and related repair services for backflow prevention devices, helping property owners stay in compliance with local utility regulations and, most importantly, protecting the community's water quality. Their dedication to this specific and critical niche makes them a key partner in maintaining the public health standards of Middle Tennessee.
American Backflow Inspectors is centrally located in Nashville, Tennessee, providing a strategic base for serving the metropolitan area and surrounding regions where backflow prevention compliance is strictly enforced by local utilities like Metro Water Services and other regional utility districts.
- Address: 2411 Cruzen St, Nashville, TN 37211, USA
This location in the heart of Nashville allows for efficient scheduling and deployment of their specialized inspection team. While the nature of backflow inspection is often driven by utility-mandated schedules, ABI's local presence ensures that they are readily available to serve the needs of residential and commercial property owners across Davidson County and adjacent parts of Middle Tennessee. Their ability to manage a large service area is key, as most backflow prevention devices, particularly those associated with irrigation systems or fire suppression lines, require annual testing to maintain compliance and system functionality.
As a highly specialized plumbing firm, the services provided by American Backflow Inspectors are entirely concentrated on protecting the integrity of the water system by preventing cross-contamination. Their service list is focused, reflecting the technical and regulatory requirements of the backflow prevention field.
- Backflow Prevention Assembly Testing and Inspection:
- Official Backflow Inspections to certify the correct operation of backflow prevention devices as required by state and local water authorities.
- Annual testing and reporting to ensure compliance and avoid fines or water service disruption.
- Device Management and Services:
- Maintenance and repair services for Backflow Devices that fail inspection, ensuring they are restored to proper working order and pass re-inspection.
- Installation and servicing of various types of Backflow Prevention assemblies, which are critical safety components on water lines where cross-connection hazards exist (e.g., irrigation systems, fire suppression systems, and certain commercial properties).
- Water Service Compliance:
- Working directly with local Water Service providers and utility districts (such as NCGUD mentioned in customer feedback, or Metro Water Services) to handle the required administrative and testing protocols.
- Plumbing Specialization:
- Though highly focused, their core expertise falls under the Plumber category, specifically in the installation and repair of cross-connection control elements within the overall plumbing system.
American Backflow Inspectors stands out in the Tennessee plumbing landscape due to its specialization and the critical nature of its work:
- Exclusive Backflow Specialization: Their focus solely on Backflow Devices, Backflow Inspections, and Backflow Prevention allows for a deep level of technical expertise and a full understanding of the complex regulatory environment in Nashville and Middle Tennessee.
- Essential Regulatory Compliance: They provide a vital service required by law for many property owners in Tennessee, helping customers avoid violations, potential fines, or the costly disconnection of their water service.
- Repair Services Offered: The provision of Repair Services means that if a backflow device fails its mandatory inspection, ABI has the capability to fix the issue and conduct the necessary re-inspection, streamlining the process for the customer.
- Expert Knowledge of Water Systems: By concentrating on the water service connection and the prevention of contamination, the company is expertly positioned to safeguard the residential and commercial drinking water supply.
- Local Nashville Base: Operating from a central Nashville address ensures they are a truly local partner, familiar with the specific requirements and scheduling demands of the various utility districts in the region.

For Tennessee residents, particularly those in the Nashville metropolitan area, choosing American Backflow Inspectors is about selecting a specialist for a non-negotiable compliance requirement. Backflow prevention is not a standard plumbing task; it is a critical public health safeguard that is tightly regulated. Opting for a company that focuses exclusively on this field—as indicated by their core services of Backflow Devices, Inspections, and Prevention—ensures that the technicians are highly trained and up-to-date on all the latest local utility codes and testing procedures.
While the nature of mandatory, utility-scheduled inspections can sometimes lead to logistical challenges, as highlighted in customer feedback regarding early morning visits and scheduling, the value proposition lies in the technical mastery of the regulatory process. When a device fails inspection, which can happen with age or exposure to harsh weather, having a company that is immediately prepared to execute the necessary repair and re-test is essential to avoid prolonged compliance issues. ABI's singular focus means they are highly efficient at navigating this specialized part of water utility compliance. For Nashville residents who value professional specialization and a deep understanding of water safety regulations, American Backflow Inspectors offers the focused expertise required to keep their water service safe and compliant with Tennessee law. The positive feedback noting the staff as "Very kind" suggests a commitment to professional customer interaction despite the complexities of mandatory compliance procedures.

American Backflow Inspectors Reviews
My utility company NCGUD schedules this inspection yearly eventhough I don't even use irrigation, but I am strong armed into having this done each year. I would have to mangle the irrigation system and render it unusable for anyone else in order to avoid this inspection. So I get the notifcation that American Backflow is coming to to do the inspection. I get billed for this in January eventhough the inspection isnit until July. July comes and my wife and I wake up to a notice on our door that our system failed inspection because the water was not on. Typically we are just a doorbell ring away and I can come out and turn the water on. Because this inspection occurred before 7am, I wasn't even awake yet to turn the water on. They leave me a date on their notice of when they are coming back out so I go ahead and take off work to be home that day. That day comes and goes, I make sure I am up early and no one shows up. I don't get a call or email telling me no one is coming. I call ABI to tell them no one shgowed up and she was nice enough on the phone and rescheduled for another day. Again I am home that day and thank God I had to bring in the trash barrel that morning because the guy was leaving my house around 6am with another failure notice before I could stop him and tell him I needed to turn on the water first. I tell him its a little early to be coming to my house and he replies that it gets hot out later in the day? My system passes of course and all is well until I get my bill from NCGUD charging me another 60 dollars for the re-inspection. I call NCGUD first and they tell me they cannot remove the fee. I call ABI and the lady tells me she cannot remove it either because they had to come out a second time. I understand that, however there is the issue of coming to someone's house prior to 7am, and also no call no showing me and me having to miss two days of work. I will gladly pay their 60 dollar re-inspection when they pay my daily rate of 391 dollars X two days for the time I had to miss work. I was supposed to get an email from a manager at ABI but that also hasn't happened. I will glady revisit this review once I have a definitive answer on this fee, the no call no show, and missed days of work.
