Howe Brothers Plumbing LLC Introduce
For over seven decades, Howe Brothers Plumbing LLC has been a trusted cornerstone of the Madison, Wisconsin community. Established in 1948, this fixture of the local business scene has cultivated a unique and invaluable role, evolving over time to meet the specific needs of the region’s homeowners, landlords, and do-it-yourself enthusiasts. While initially serving as a traditional plumbing service contractor, the business underwent a significant strategic shift in the early 1980s. Recognizing a need for reliable local support, the company committed to stopping external service work and began operating almost exclusively as a dedicated do-it-yourself (DIY) plumbing headquarters.
This pivot has cemented Howe Brothers’ status as Madison's go-to source for expert advice, quality Faucets And Fixtures, and, most importantly, those essential, often hard-to-find Repair Parts. For anyone in Wisconsin looking to tackle a plumbing project, whether a minor repair or a Major Remodeling task, this location is revered as a resource staffed by knowledgeable individuals, including a master plumber, who provide unparalleled guidance and honest solutions. Their model is built entirely on supporting the customer's project, ensuring success with detailed instruction and the right materials.
Howe Brothers Plumbing LLC is located right in the heart of Madison at 1215 Williamson St, Madison, WI 53703, USA. This well-known address in the vibrant Williamson Street neighborhood makes it highly accessible for residents throughout the city and surrounding Dane County. However, customers planning a visit should be keenly aware of the shop’s unique operational schedule. To secure expert assistance for your Plumbing Problems or to find Replacement Parts, you must plan your visit carefully.
The store operates with intentionally limited hours, closing every day at noon. This focused schedule—Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM, and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM—reflects their commitment to personalized, high-quality consultation during the morning rush. For the dedicated Wisconsin DIYer, getting up early to visit Howe Brothers is often the first, most critical step in ensuring a project is completed correctly the first time. The team’s deep knowledge of regional homes, combined with the store’s long history, means that even complex issues relating to older Madison infrastructure can often be solved right at the counter.
While the current focus is on retail supply and consultation, Howe Brothers is categorized as both a Bathroom supply store and a Plumbing supply store, supporting a vast range of projects that a typical plumber might handle. Their value lies in providing the exact part and the necessary expertise for the customer to execute the repair themselves, often saving significant time and expense compared to scheduling a full service call.
The range of plumbing projects and systems they support includes:
- **Water Systems and Appliances:** Providing the parts, advice, and Faucets And Fixtures needed for Water heater installation, as well as maintaining and repairing existing Water Heaters and Water Softeners—systems critical for managing Wisconsin's notoriously hard water. They also stock components for Sump Pumps, vital for keeping Madison-area basements dry.
- **Fixtures and Major Appliances:** Supplying high-quality components for Faucet installation, Faucet repair, Shower installation, Toilet installation, and Toilet repair. - **Remodeling Projects:** They serve as the supply hub for Heavy Lifting projects and Major Remodeling, providing the core components for extensive Repair And Replacement work in kitchens and bathrooms, ensuring every Faucet and Fixture is the perfect fit.
- **Specialty Parts and Tools:** Their most notable offering is the vast inventory of hard-to-find Repair Parts and Replacement Parts, often necessary for repairing historic or custom fixtures found in Madison's older homes. They even offer in-house services, such as grinding seats on old faucets to stop drips, allowing customers to preserve quality antique fixtures.
For any homeowner who has struggled to find a unique washer or valve in a mass-market store, Howe Brothers’ commitment to stocking specialty and legacy plumbing parts is an unparalleled local asset.
The reputation of Howe Brothers is built on key features that distinguish them within the local market. They are a genuinely unique resource in the Madison area, providing benefits that extend far beyond simply selling plumbing supplies.
- **Master Plumber Expertise:** The team, including owner Regan Howe, possesses the high-level expertise of a master plumber, offering detailed, step-by-step guidance on complex repairs and installations.
- **Integrity and Value Focus:** Customers consistently appreciate the store’s approach of suggesting a cost-effective Repair And Replacement solution first, before pushing the customer toward buying a completely new unit. This ethical model builds tremendous trust within the community.
- **DIY Education:** Howe Brothers acts as a hands-on learning center. Staff will patiently explain what a customer needs, demonstrate proper installation, and ensure the DIYer understands the mechanics of the system—a true hallmark of friendly, professional service.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Regan was extremely helpful with our toilet and shower head purchase and DIY install. We really appreciated the time he took to understand our needs so that he could make the best recommendation. Something that stood out to us was his initial suggestion of how we might be able to repair, rather than replace our toilet to save money and waste. While we ultimately needed to do a replacement, not being immediately pushed towards buying something new was refreshing.I highly recommend his shop for all your plumbing needs. Great products with knowledgeable and friendly service!
April 12 · Tommy JohnsonIt worked! I was not confident in this DIY repair I did today. Hah - I'm actually not even sure what the name of the part I just replaced is. It was inside of the rough-in valve for a shower.Anyway - I took a few pictures and visited Howe. Explained what was going on. He told me what part I needed. I told him the part looked too big and didn't seem right. He was like no - it's the right part. Then he told me how to remove the old one, and what I needed to do to make sure it was put back together correctly. And when I was nodding slowly but looking confused he repeated what he said in a different way.It worked! No more drips. This place is a great resource. Just remember - they close at noon and only take cash or check.
May 08 · Matt SmithTop notch expertise and they never let me down. Every time I have dropped in, they have exactly what I need and provide guidance on the plumbing repair. Avoid the big box stores and get local personalized service from this great small business!
May 28 · Paul StokesThis place is awesome. They knew exactly the parts I needed, for a very old kitchen faucet. Very friendly, too!Be aware, cash or check only.
September 18 · Michael IbachIt's a very late post, but I purchased a shower stall and it was the perfect size for the remodel I was doing. Great price and even got it delivered.
