We received this referral from a trusted AC company we used and loved. While Ernie is a nice person and this isn't personal, I feel really compelled to warn people about our experience. Our normal, usual plumbers that we always hire-charge 600.00 a day for two guys but they were booked on another job for two weeks. Before leaving for vacation out of the country, we had a few plumbing companies come to the house to bid the job-none were nearly as high as Ernie, all of them took pictures under the house for us to know exactly which drain pipes needed to be replaced with PVC piping and all of them NEVER once mentioned a need to tear down lath and plaster walls inside the house above where the small slow leaks were happening under the house. Not one single company until Ernie came along!By the time we even received Ernie as a recommendation- We were out of the country. Ernie told us on the phone with two witnesses that his day rate with himself and mother worker was 1300.00 a day. He tried to sell us on having to open up walls inside with the lath and old plaster from the 1920's. that it would take two days if we went from the inside out and under the house but if we chose to just do underneath the house replace the drain pipes only it would be a day of labor and a few hundred dollars for some PVC pipe replacement. He never had any real justification or explanation for why it would be necessary to open up walls inside the home, tried to sell us on that and at first we believed him to be honest but spoke to others who told us it was a sales scam for unnecessary work according to my usual plumbers we spoke to who know my home.We didn't want the old 1920’s, lath and plaster walls inside cut open and told him to just check under the kitchen sink area to make sure pipes run ok. We couldn't understand his push to tear down walls inside to redo piping when no other bid even mentioned this need at all. But again we trusted this because of who referred Ernie for the job. After the first day of work he texted me while out of the country that he had to go back for a few hours the next day to finish the job. Why when he said it would be a day only...? But ok a few hours. Then we received some picture of nine small drain line pipes on some sidewalk not remotely near our home area and we thought it looked like a small job since every plumber we had come out to bid the job said there are a few pipes below with some intermittent slow leaks needing to be replaced. Ernie made it out to sound like the entire underneath was replaced and that's why it took an entire day but the picture he sent which is attached to this review shows otherwise. No images were sent of the underneath of house showing the final job completed. The bill he texted me was close to 3000.00 and we were in shock!!!! Not a single company we spoke to or saw the work needed ever said we would have to pay nothing close to that work Ernie charged. He took advantage of our kindness and billed inappropriately so. He knew better than this. Seemed so honest on the phone but not being on site ourselves we couldn't oversee it, put all of our trust in him and he took advantage of it. Again, he told US by phone the job would take one day @ 1300.00 plus parts costing 200-400 max and he decided to bill close to 3000.00 which is way beyond the negotiated and agreement we made. We will pay the day rate of what he quoted and said it would initially take plus his parts costs of 200.00 plus tax and see him in court for the contested amount he claims he is owed. Happily….
