Barnes Plumbing Co, Inc. Introduce
For homeowners and businesses across the greater Minneapolis and St. Paul area, finding a reliable, experienced plumbing and heating professional is essential to maintaining a safe and comfortable property. Plumbing and heating systems are not just conveniences; they are complex and critical infrastructure that protect your home from the harsh Minnesota climate and ensure a clean, reliable water supply. That's why many residents in the Twin Cities turn to established local contractors for their repair, maintenance, and installation needs.
Barnes Plumbing Co, Inc. is a long-standing fixture in the Minneapolis plumbing and heating community. The company has been serving the Twin Cities area since 1982, accumulating over four decades of experience and specialized knowledge in the industry. They emphasize a business philosophy rooted in being fair, honest, and providing quality service, principles that are particularly valued by local customers who often rely on word-of-mouth referrals. The firm is led by President Michael Pemberton, and their decades in the business suggest a deep familiarity with the unique plumbing and heating challenges of Minnesota homes, which often include aging pipes, extreme temperature fluctuations, and the need for reliable hot water and radiant heating systems.
As Master Plumbers, the team at Barnes Plumbing Co, Inc. handles a wide spectrum of projects, ranging from minor service calls to extensive new construction and remodeling plumbing installations. The range of services is comprehensive, covering every element of your home's water and heating systems. Whether you have a dripping faucet, a failed water heater, or are planning a complete renovation that requires new piping and fixtures, the company positions itself as a single source for these needs.
One of the more specialized services offered is RPZ Valve Testing, a critical regulatory requirement for many commercial and residential properties in Minnesota with systems like irrigation or fire suppression. An RPZ (Reduced Pressure Zone) valve is a type of backflow prevention device designed to protect the public water supply from contamination. Over time, these valves can wear down, making annual testing by a licensed professional—which Barnes Plumbing is licensed to perform—necessary to ensure they are functioning correctly and that your property remains compliant with local codes. Given the importance of public water safety, this specialized certification is a notable aspect of their professional expertise.
The firm's reputation is supported by numerous customer ratings across various platforms, reflecting a generally high percentage of positive experiences with quality work and fair pricing. For instance, on Consumers' Checkbook, the company received a high percentage of "superior" overall ratings from customers and was noted for pricing that was often lower than the average for comparable plumbers. In a challenging and essential service industry, such consistent, long-term positive feedback highlights a commitment to customer satisfaction. However, it is also important for customers to be aware that like any service provider, some customer interactions, particularly concerning communication and clear definition of the scope of work for larger projects like pipe replacement, have resulted in negative reviews. This underscores the professional advice to always secure a detailed written agreement for all planned work to ensure a clear understanding between the service provider and the customer.
Choosing a plumbing partner in the Twin Cities means selecting a team that not only knows how to handle the technical aspects of the job but also respects your time and property. With a history stretching back over 40 years, Barnes Plumbing Co, Inc. offers deep-rooted local expertise and a wide array of licensed services to address the diverse needs of the Minnesota community. They aim to be a dependable choice for all your plumbing and heating maintenance, repair, and installation requirements, operating from their long-established location in Minneapolis.
The core of their work revolves around maintaining the essential functions of a home—hot water, working fixtures, and reliable heating—all while adhering to a standard of quality that satisfies local homeowners. Their continued presence in the area and their ability to handle a broad scope of work, from a simple faucet repair to complex new system installations, makes them a significant resource for property owners looking for comprehensive service.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Had the contractor out to fix a problem with a faucet that ultimately made the problem worse. I didn't realize it until I went to use it that the different sized gasket contractor used wasn't completing a seal.Contractor was aggressive and rude when I attempted to contact them regarding this problem. I was willing to pay for a proper fix but not another $250 trip charge.
September 04 · aaron hinzMy wife and I reached out to Barns Plumbing to replace some galvanized piping for some pex piping. This was a 30-foot run from our laundry room to the kitchen, and they quoted us $2,500.00. We agreed and when the plumber showed up on site, he told us he was going to vacate the pipe. We had agreed to a price to REPLACE the piping, not vacate the existing piping. The plumber walked off site. I reached out to the owner, and he said that when they say they are going to replace piping, that actually means vacate and install. He stated that it was our fault for being cheap and not wanting to pay for the work. I was okay paying $2,500 to REPLACE piping, not $2,500 to snake pex piping next to a vacated pipe. I told the owner, Mike, to look up the definition of work for replacing piping and he told me that whatever you read on the internet is not true. We asked for a quote to replace piping, agreed to a quote to replace the piping, and they were planning to vacate the piping.GET ALL THE WORK THEY PLAN TO DO IN WRITING BEFORE HAND OR AVOID THIS BUSINESS. They will change the scope of work on you when they show up.
May 14 · david grecoBarnes has always provided solid, quality work for very reasonable prices. I’m fairly handy, but I know my limits. Anytime the work is behind what I’m able to handle, I call Barnes. They’re always able to come quickly. Once they were even able to get to me in 20 minutes on Friday in the late afternoon bc I’d accidentally broken the water shut off knob while installing a new faucet (thankfully the water was already off)! They’ve been our first call for years because of their quality work, reasonable pricing, and great customer service.
September 04 · Kristen SchaeferI would look elsewhere for a plumber. They did the plumbing work and installed a new boiler less than 5 years ago in the home that I bought. The solder joint to the expansion tank was done poorly and leaked, which then shorted out my circulation pump, and thus caused me to lose heat last night. I'm very thankful that my friend and I made it to Menards before they closed, and that it failed a few weeks after we were out of country on vacation. That, and if it wasn't for friends this mistake would have ended up costing me hundreds if not up to a thousand for a emergency plumber visit.
December 15 · Andrew EvansI have been very happy with Barnes Plumbing over the years. I have used them many times and they always do a great job at a fair price. They put in all the plumbing for a new bathroom. They replaced my galvanized water pipes with PEX. They fixed a broken floor drain by breaking up the concrete floor in the basement and replacing the pipe. They have always been very reliable and they have great communication.
