Plumbers UA Local 130 Introduce
The Chicago Journeymen Plumbers' Local Union 130 UA is a monumental force in the construction and maintenance industry across the vast expanse of Northeastern Illinois. For over 120 years, this labor organization has played a vital and often unseen role in protecting the health of communities throughout the Chicagoland area and its surrounding regions. The fundamental mission of Plumbers UA Local 130 is two-fold: to advocate for the professional interests, fair wages, and working conditions of its thousands of members, and simultaneously to supply the highest quality, safety-focused, and rigorously trained plumbing craftsmen to the industry.
Functioning as a substantial local labor union within the United Association (UA), which collectively represents over 350,000 building tradesmen across North America, Local 130 is recognized as one of the largest straight-line plumbing locals in the entire association. This size translates directly into a powerful presence in the construction piping industry, enabling the union to establish and uphold superior standards for professionalism and skill in Illinois plumbing. By managing intensive, certified education, and meticulous work placement programs, Local 130 ensures that its members are prepared for the increasingly complex demands of modern infrastructure projects, ranging from large nuclear power plants to residential service calls.
While the organization’s historical roots and main administrative offices are centralized in Chicago, Plumbers UA Local 130 maintains a vast jurisdictional territory covering a significant portion of Illinois. This wide-reaching influence allows the union to serve a multitude of contractors and communities far beyond the immediate city limits. For residents and professionals in the northern counties, a physical presence, such as the facility located in Round Lake, helps to anchor the organization's resources and training centers closer to the workforce and projects outside of Cook County.
The specific address for this branch, located in Lake County, is:

- Historic Impact on Public Health: Local 130 members have been integral to major infrastructure projects in Chicago and the surrounding communities, including the historic reversal of the Chicago River and the ongoing Deep Tunnel Project, both of which are critical to regional water quality.
- Rigorous Education System: The organization oversees a five-year apprenticeship program that combines intense classroom instruction with extensive on-the-job training. This system is designed to produce the safest, most productive, and highly skilled plumbing workforce in the industry.
- Nationally Recognized Certifications: Members often hold specialized certifications validated by objective third parties, including advanced training in medical gas installation, backflow testing, instrumentation, welding (including over 80 UA weld tests), and safety standards (UA OSHA Certification).

For property owners, builders, and contractors in Illinois, the decision to engage with Plumbers UA Local 130 members (via signatory contractors) is often a strategic choice centered on quality assurance and expertise. The union's mandate is to ensure that every craftsman entering the job site possesses validated skills, adherence to the highest safety protocols, and a comprehensive understanding of complex plumbing and piping systems. This meticulous approach reduces the risk of project delays and costly rework, especially on large commercial or industrial ventures where plumbing failure can have severe consequences.
Hiring a contractor who utilizes Plumbers Local 130 labor means investing in a workforce that has been systematically educated to meet the state's most stringent building codes and technical demands. Their journeymen participate in continuous education and upgrade training, ensuring they remain current with the latest techniques and evolving industry standards, particularly in areas like backflow prevention and medical gas system installation, where precision is paramount.
It is important for both potential members and external partners to be aware of all facets of a large organization. Public records show that the organization has faced scrutiny regarding its administrative conduct and internal labor practices, including filings with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) concerning matters of bargaining and coercion. Furthermore, some anecdotal feedback from individuals attempting to contact the local has cited a lack of administrative professionalism and poor customer service over the phone. While the technical excellence of the craftspeople provided by Local 130 remains highly regarded and their training standards are objectively rigorous, those seeking to interact with the organization's administration should be prepared for potential administrative challenges based on historical public reports and user feedback. Ultimately, the strength of Plumbers UA Local 130 in the Illinois construction landscape rests on the proven, certified skills of its thousands of members, who continue to shape and maintain the essential infrastructure of the region.

Plumbers UA Local 130 Reviews
This was my first time calling this place to ask about their services, and I was completely disappointed. The women who answered were extremely unprofessional and lacked basic customer service. They’ve definitely lost my business. I do not recommend this place—stay far away. If this is how they treat people over the phone, I can only imagine how bad it is in person.
July 07 · TI pursue the NLRB website weekly for latest developments in labor relations. 130 just received a bunch of ULP’s….seems like they should be standing up for their members more than trying the threaten them. They are clearly in it for themselves and not the members!
